Chandrayaan 3 – Further Reduction in Orbital Altitude

Chandrayaan 3’s orbiter’s altitude has been successfully reduced further, as reported by ISRO.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully launched the ‘Chandrayaan-3’ lunar probe from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, for the investigation of the southern pole of the moon.

The launch took place on the 14th of last month from the space research facility of Dr. Satish Thavan, located in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh.
Having successfully completed a journey of 23 days,Chandrayaan-3 has landed on the lunar surface in the orbit’s intended path. Currently, it is traversing the lunar orbit’s trajectory. The orbital path has been modified for its present course.

In this phase, ISRO has announced that the Chandrayaan 3 lunar probe’s orbital altitude has been successfully reduced further.

Having already been reduced three times, the current orbital altitude of the moon has now been further reduced to 153 * 163 km. Chandrayaan 3’s lander is scheduled to separate from the orbiter tomorrow. On August 23rd, the lunar descent towards the southern pole of the moon will take place.
