The price of flowers has doubled in Madurai Mattuthavani flower market on the occasion of Vinayagar Chaturthi and Subhamugurtha day. In particular, jasmine was sold at Rs.600 per kg last week, but today it has risen sharply to Rs.1,500.

Similarly, Pichipoo which was sold at Rs 400 is now being sold at Rs 800, Aralipoo at Rs 150 at Rs 200 and Mullaipoo at Rs 400 at Rs 800.

According to traders, the prices are increasing due to reduced supply of flowers.
