The annual festival of Goddess Veyilkantha Amman, the sub-deity associated with Thiruchendur Subramanya Swamy Temple, commences today (Wednesday) morning with the flag hoisting. Preceding this, in the early morning, the temple is opened, and there is a special abhishekam (ritual bathing ceremony) and decoration for the deity, followed by the flag hoisting at 5:40 AM near the coconut tree that stands against the sanctum facing the Goddess’ shrine. In the evening, at 7:00 PM, there is a procession inside the temple. This continuous festival spans for 10 days. During the festival days, each day, in the morning and evening, the Goddess arrives in different chariots to the temple. On the 10th day, which falls on September 1st this year, the therottam (chariot procession) takes place. To oversee and facilitate this festival, the temple’s Arangavalars group led by Arul Murugan, along with Uruvarinargal, Anitha Kumaran, Ganeshan, Ramdas, Sentil Murugan, Inai Anaiyar, and temple workers, is actively involved. In preparation for this grand festival, Arul Murugan and Uruvarinargal including Anitha Kumaran, Ganeshan, Ramdas, Sentil Murugan, Inai Anaiyar, and temple staff gathered at the Sivan Kovil Maniyam Nellaiyappan’s presence. The necessary arrangements for the festival are discussed and planned, and the permission to conduct the festival for Veyilkantha Amman Avani Thiruvizha is obtained from Karthigai Rajendran, the executive officer of the temple. Yesterday, a meeting was held in the presence of Sivan Kovil Arangavalars group’s head, Arul Murugan, and Uruvarinargal including Anitha Kumaran, Ganeshan, Ramdas, Sentil Murugan, Inai Anaiyar, and temple workers to ensure the success of the festival.
