Release of surplus water from Chembarambakkam Lake!

The water level of Chembarambakkam lake is being monitored regularly.

The Northeast Monsoon has intensified and Chennai and its suburbs have been receiving heavy rains for more than a week.

This has increased the flow of water to the lakes. As the water level of Chembarambakkam lake approaches 23 feet, the authorities decided to release 200 cubic feet of water.

Accordingly, 200 cubic feet of surplus water has been released from Chembarambakkam lake this morning.In 19 sluices of the lake, surplus water is opened through 3 shutters. While 25 cubic feet of water per second is already being released, an additional 175 Cubic feet of water has been opened.

With the release of water from Sembarambakkam Lake, the coastal area including Sirukalathur, Kunradathur, Thirumudivakkam, Tiruneermalai, Adyar, etc. A flood warning has been issued for the people of the coastal areas. The water level of Chembarambakkam lake is being monitored regularly. According to the officials, the amount of surplus water released from the lake is likely to increase.
