Meg Lanning, who has been the successful captain of the Australian women’s cricket team, has suddenly announced her retirement. The 31-year-old has captained Australia in 182 internationals. Meg Lanning, who made his debut for Australia at the age of 18 in 2010, has announced his retirement today after a 13-year career in international cricket.
Lanning, who first led Australia in 2014, has been one of the most successful captains in women’s cricket. Led Australia to 69 wins in 78 ODIs, 76 wins in 100 T20Is and one win in 4 Tests. His captaincy also led Australia to four T20 World Cups, He has won a 50-over World Cup and a gold medal at last year’s Commonwealth Games.
On retirement, he said, “It was a difficult decision to retire from international cricket. But I feel now is the right time for me.” I have been incredibly fortunate to have enjoyed 13 years of international cricket. So I knew now was the right time to retire. I am proud of what I have been able to achieve.
And “My family, my teammates, Cricket Australia and Australian cricketers who have allowed me to play the game I love. I would like to express my gratitude to all the fans who have supported me in my international cricket career.
Lanning also captained Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League earlier this year. In that season Delhi team finished 2nd. Even after retiring from international cricket, Lanning continued to play in local T20 leagues
