Water was released from Mettur Dam to Cauvery Delta irrigation from 12th of June to 10th of last month. Due to this the water level of the dam decreased. Meanwhile, the water that should have been released to Tamil Nadu this month has not been released from the Karnataka dams.
However, due to the occasional rains in the catchment areas of Tamil Nadu, the water inflow to the dam is increasing. The water level of Mettur dam is rising due to the fact that water is being released from the dam at a lower level than the water coming into the dam.
Yesterday there was heavy rain in the catchment areas of Tamil Nadu. Due to this, the flow of water to Mettur dam increased. As of this morning, the dam is receiving 6,498 cubic feet of water per second. 500 cubic feet of water per second is being released from the dam.
