The Cauvery catchment area receives widespread rainfall from June to August, which is the southwest monsoon season. But this year the Southwest Monsoon has not intensified in the Cauvery catchment areas.
As a result, the Karnataka government has not even released water from the Karnataka dams to Tamil Nadu, which should have been released into the Cauvery river as per the Supreme Court ruling. Nominally, depending on the amount of rainfall, the state government releases water from Krishnarajasagar, Kabini and other dams.
Meanwhile, due to intermittent rains in Tamil Nadu Cauvery catchment areas such as Okenakal, Kolathur, Mettur, the water inflow to Mettur Dam has slightly increased. The flow of water to Mettur dam was 507 cubic feet per second yesterday morning and today morning water has increased to 2,707 cubic feet.
However, because the opening is more than the water coming into the dam, the water level of Mettur dam is falling rapidly. The water level which was 44.06 feet the day before yesterday fell to 43.11 feet yesterday morning. Today the water level has dropped further to 42.49 feet.
Currently 13.40 TMC in the dam. Water is available.
